Welcome to
The Jan Henrick Achievement Award
Just before Christmas in 2002, Jan and Kevin sat together, talking about how they could bring a spark of hope to someone during the holidays. Jan had recently retired from the school system, but her heart was still with the students. She wanted to give back in a way that truly mattered.
With the help of Wharton High School and Plant City High School, they created a special tradition: 12 students from each school, chosen by their teachers for turning their lives around - raising grades, improving attendance, or showing a brighter attitude would each receive $150 to spend however they wished. It wasn’t just about the money; it was about showing these students that someone believed in them.
The gift grew over the years, rising to $300 per student. In 2011, Pasco High School in Dade City joined in, expanding the reach of this quiet act of generosity that started with one heartfelt conversation.
